Railway transportation is being rapidly modernized and the mechanization of railway services is undergoing corresponding change. Mechanization of services which began as individual systems, is now developing into a unified, total system, linking each system in the network through the development of computer (particularly microcomputer application) and communication technology. Hitachi, Ltd. is trying to remedy the lack of uniformity in early system types by developing an autonomous decentralized system. This system embodies a highly reliable autonomous decentralized loop network and 16-bit microcomputer as its nucleus in the ground control and information control system and utilizes Hitachi's experience in designing and manufacturing the total railway system. In the vehicle control system Hitachi is also improving reliability and control performance by upgrading control electronics,functions and putting to practical use the complete digital processing ATC and the ATO which adopts the Fuzzy theory.
