Providing a diagnostics capability for today's weapon systems requires a multifaced combination of hardware, software, documentation and personnel. The responsibility for providing this capability is spread among a number of different communities (e.g., testing, training, human engineering, publication writers). The result is reflected in the field, where the technician has been furnished a myriad of tools and documentation which is confusing, complex and often contradictory. The result is lengthy repair times and a waste of manpower and dollars. This paper describes the concept of Integrated Diagnostics which is aimed at providing technicians with a capability to detect and unambiguously isolate all faults known or expected to occur in weapon systems through innovative design of the 'diagnostics system'.
