Application of electronics technology to engine control, which grew from demands to control exhaust gas and improve fuel consumption, has now reached the first stage of its maturity. The first microprocessor engine control system was installed in General Motors Oldsmobile 'Toronado' '77 model, seven years ago. After this first breakthrough, there have been remarkable innovations and progress in electronics, the most representative field being the microprocessor. These innovations have led to the ever greater use of electronics in vehicles. This paper will discuss the current state of the art of electronics technology in 'ride control' and state some of the possible applications it will encompass in future.
