(Ada is a trademark of the U.S. Department of Defense). In this presentation we will attempt to characteristize NASA software and assess the relevance of Ada to NASA. NASA does not presently have an official position in Ada. The authors here merely express their personal observations on the issue of Ada relevancy. The NASA software in board categories will be first described, then the software life-cycle characterized. In this context the previously stated programming language policy and practices will also be reviewed. Then a discussion of present NASA postion and activities will be presented. Finally, issues of applicability, benefits, and transition, as well as present and potential problems will be examined.
