Thanks largely to the success of the UK offshore-oil industry in locating and exploiting underwater resources, this country can look forward to a few decades of self sufficiency in oil. Together with the USSR and Norway, the UK is among the few industrialised nations fortunate enough to be able to meet or exceed domestic demand for petroleum from domestic resources. The UK is said to be the 6th or 7th largest oil producer in the world.
