Manned simulation has been widely recognized as a vital tool for the development of aircraft, avionic, and armament systems. More recently its value has been demonstrated as a tool for the evaluation in a simulated combat environment of the operational utility of systems such as the Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM). Manned simulation is not a replacement for flight test, but provides a supplement that can be used to provide test data that may be cost prohibitive via flight tests. This paper discusses the simulator facility, and presents a definition of the models used for this test. Additionally, the lessons learned and system modifications which envolved as a result of this type of testing will be discussed.
