Gas booster stations are installed at specificed intervals along a gas pipeline which transports natural gas to a distant area, to make up for friction loss and boost up the gas efficiently. Each gas booster station is equipped with gas compressors driven by gas turbines, and the number of operating units and their speed are controlled according to the change in the flow rate of the transported gas. On designing the control equipment, it is necessary to know thoroughly the characteristics of station equipment and the behavior of the whole pipeline. In October 1976, Hitachi, Ltd. signed a contract with V/O MACHINOIMPORT, USSR for one complete gas booster station to be installed near the city of Volgograd as one of the stations for the natural gas pipeline from Orenburg to Europe. This booster station has five modules of Hitachi-GE-Model M3142 14.600 HP simple cycle two-shaft heavy duty gas turbines. This paper describes the control equipment and the results of simulation analyses.
