USAF will soon launch an imaginative new program, called integrated digital avionics (IDA), intended to increase greatly the versatility of future generations of combat aircraft. If this program can successfully make the difficult transition from bold concept to reality, it could provide military aircraft that can be tailored to a variety of missions by reprogramming a central airborne computer, which also would change the cockpit displays for each mission.
