Suspension compliance, compliance steer and wheel alignment variation are very important to improve a vehicle’s stability, controllability and ride comfort. Naturally, the degree of precision with the calculation for those elements is essential. In case of the McPherson strut suspension, a shock absorber and a knuckle are exposed to the bending force from the tyre, and the stiffness has an effect on the compliance, compliance steer and wheel alignment variation. In fact, we are often forced to change the design values relating to suspension geometry and bush characteristics. This article describes a new computing system that has been developed to calculate the effect of the stiffness of a shock absorber and a knuckle on the compliance, compliance steer and wheel alignment variation per second in a simple way, and to clarify the effect.
