Coupled electromagnetic-thermal methods have been widely used to simulate the induction line heating process. However, the rigorous mesh requirement for accurate magnetic calculation is not suitable for large-scale simulation, such as the plate bending calculation. This paper introduces an efficient and accurate approach to simplify a heat source to enable the rapid estimation of thick plate bending with induction heating. First, based on the coupled method, which can consider temperature-dependent material properties, numerical studies on power distribution are performed to verify the feasibility of the simplified method. Second, from the first step of the coupling analysis on a small yet accurate sample, a simplified Gaussian surface heat source is obtained and then applied to a large-scale plate. Finally, the results obtained from the proposed method and the current coupled method are compared with experimental results. The comparisons reveal that the proposed method can reduce the duration of the calculation considerably while maintaining the same level of engineering precision.
