This paper describes a conceptual design and simulation analysis of a modular aerial system (MAS). This system is designed with the purpose of independent and cooperative flight with or without payload. Properties of modularity allow the system to adapt to different tasks by adding/removing modules to/from a configuration. The MAS module is based on a coaxial motor and a two degree-of-freedom mechanism that transfers its weight or center of mass from one side to another to make the module navigate around. The connector mechanism is magnetic-based allowing the module to be attached to different metallic objects or magnets. Navigation principle, dynamic and finite element analysis are simulated via Autodesk Inventor and MATLAB and Simscape Multibody and presented in this work.
