A vehicle-track-substructure dynamic system model is developed using FE tool Abaqus coupled to an MBS code Gensys. A vehicle dynamics is simulated in Gensys and the contact force and contact patch from the MBS simulation are used as input file in a detailed FE simulation. Vibration analysis of the rail component has been studied using the FE model of a track representation. To identify the range of the rail acceleration, different track irregularity conditions and train speeds are considered. The rail acceleration sampled at different sampling location along and across the rail indicated a considerable drop of the acceleration from the rail head sampling location to the rail foot. The acceleration of the rail head is most sensitive to variation of loading magnitude and loading position, as well as to the train speed. For an operation speed increasing from 100 to 160 km/h, the accelerations of rail head increase from 737 to 1000 m/s2, while the increment at the rail foot and web is moderate. This investigation is part of a study towards a continuous monitoring of railway tracks/switches and crossing conditions.
