A complete experimental model of the FAST is established for comprehensive validation of theories and methods. The dimension of the FAST prototype is huge (the diameter is 520 m), and the span of the feed support system reaches 600 m. It is costly and time-consuming to build an equivalent-scale experimental prototype, and the experimental study is carried out with a small-scale model. The final scale model with a span of 40 m and a size ratio of 1:15 is built at the Miyun Observing Station of the National Astronomical Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Science (NAOC), which verifies the research contents of this book, realizes the astronomical observation function and guides the engineering construction of the FAST prototype. This chapter first presents the design and implement of mechanical structure and control system of the FAST final scale model. Then, experimental research on control methods is implemented on this scale model. Finally, astronomical observation experiments are conducted to systematically verify the research contents.
