The paper studies the effect of laser shock peening on the physical and mechanical properties of the surface layer of D16 aluminum alloy. Experiments were carried out with different values of laser radiation intensity. The dependences of maximum deformations and microhardness on the intensity of radiation are obtained. The effect of the value of the laser radiation energy at a fixed intensity on the size of the area of metal plastic deformation is investigated.
