Abstract This study analyzed the driver’s pupil diameter changes involved in rear-end car accidents. The purpose of this research is to understand the relationship between driving behaviors and changes in pupil diameter. The diameter of pupil changes not only in response to light, but also in response to other factors involving both cognitive and emotional activities. In this study, we evaluated rear-end vehicle accidents from drivers’ psychological perspective by using pupillary analysis. We hypothesized that the patterns of pupil diameter changes could serve as an indicator to evaluate the driver’s behaviors responding to a dangerous situation. An eye-tracking technology was used to collect pupil diameter and records the events of car accidents.
