Studies on supersonic/hypersonic vehicles by the NASA AMI-X program [1], date back to the ‘60s [2]. This program underlined that the approach of integrating individually optimized system elements (as routinely done in designing subsonic aircraft) yields a significant reduction in performance [3]. Vanderkerchove (VDK) and Czysz [4] identified a new approach, based on the Küchemann tau, to screen, identify, and visualize the design to first order over a range of feasible solutions.
