Abstract The CHT-Simulation of heat transfer in radial turbine stages is required for different applications such as the parametrization of lumped capacity heat transfer models. The state of the art regarding the CHT-Simulation of turbine heat transfer consists of the iterative adjustment of a heat transfer coefficient on the turbine housing outer surfaces. The disadvantage of this approach is the need of three simulations per operating point. In the present work, a new approach is introduced which allows the CHTSimulation without defining a heat transfer coefficient so that the numerical effort is reduced to a single simulation per operating point. The new approach is based on an integration of the fluid region surrounding the turbocharger in the simulation model which represents the Ambience.
