The article examines the impact of information technology and methods of crime investigation. Computer science is the cause of the paradigm shift in forensic science. The examples of English judicial practice are analyzed, in which the competition of two paradigms of criminal procedural knowledge is traced. The new concept is based on the Bayesian approach. The use of the original computer program “FORVER” to investigate murders committed in transport is demonstrated. The FORVER program combines the method of naive Bayes and Bayesian networks. The dominant concept in computer science is the Bayesian approach, which defines new ideas about the cognitive process in general and criminal investigation and trial in particular. The effectiveness of the Bayesian approach is demonstrated by the example of overcoming the limitations in the representativeness of archival criminal cases and the possibility of using the territorial connections of the crime mechanism in the investigation of murders committed in transport. The paper shows that Bayesian calculations can take place under the conditions of the old identification paradigm and the corresponding “sorting” method of solving a crime. It is necessary to introduce new concepts into forensic science theory, ensuring the digitalized development of some particular forensic concepts to change the situation. These include forensic differential diagnostics and probabilistic methods of advancing and checking versions.
