Straddle monorail provides a new way for small and medium-sized cities to develop urban rail transit. In order to promote straddle monorail to play a full role in urban public transport, it is necessary to study the competitiveness of straddle monorail. Firstly, the application scenario and generalized cost functions are designed for straddle monorail and other transportation modes. Furthermore, the structures of the generalized cost functions are tested under different combinations of travel distance and travel speed. The logit model is used to analyze the competitiveness of the straddle monorail lines with different functional types in the corresponding application scenario. Finally, numerical experiments are carried out. The results show that the time cost accounts for 47.64% to 63.93% in the generalized cost function for the straddle monorails. Results also show that simply increasing the travel speed shows limited help to improve the competitiveness of the straddle monorail. As a part of travel generalized cost, access time has a great impact on the market share in short distance travel, especially for connection and densification monorails.
