The monthly water quality data measured at nine stations in Kansas river located in Kansas state in U.S.A. were used for factor analysis and cluster analysis using the statistical software (SPSS). The results of correlation analysis show that eight water quality data are highly correlated. The results of factor analysis show that three different factors such as land use and non-point source of pollutants, nitrification, and point source pollutions can be identified. Therefore, water quality characteristics can be explained by one or more factors mentioned above. Based on the cluster analysis, water quality characteristics of each measuring stations can be classified depending on if the station is located in main stream or not.
