There are many ways through which Pedestrians communicate their intensions to the oncoming vehicle such as eye contact, hand gestures, and head movement among them which gesture is widely followed before crossing the road is still not known. The aim of this study is to identify that which gesture or combination of gestures is widely followed by Pedestrian before crossing the road to prevent any mishap. A video-based observation is carried out to compare among different gestures (signals) exhibited by people while crossing a street at different signalized and unsignalized locations. Changes in head orientation toward an approaching vehicle, as well as vehicle speed, are major indicators of strong crossing intention, according to our research. Furthermore, glancing at the car is not considered eye contact; instead, it is a stare that is deemed eye contact. Pedestrian usually looks at the car to judge its speed rather than making eye contact with the driver.
