This article presents the methods of the permissible deviation of the parameter of the technical state of engineering systems and equipment. The following methods are presented: 1) a method for determining the optimal permissible deviation of a parameter by the criterion of minimum unit costs for a given intercontrol operating time; 2) a method for determining Dopt according to the criterion of ensuring maximum reliability; 3) a method for determining Dopt and tmopt of group control and restoration of operability (repair, replacement) of components with dependent access for control and repair; 4) method for determining Dopt, used only at the first, from the beginning of operation, control of the parameter; 5) method for determining Dopt and tmopt when tm is not specified; 6) a method for determining Dopt and tmopt, taking into account the increase in unit continuous costs due to the deviation of the parameter. A method for calculating the residual resource according to normal distribution is described for predicting wear and other monotonous processes of deterioration of the technical condition of units and assemblies of machines, equipment, instruments and engineering systems. A limitation on the use of this method has been established.
