Not everyone is excited about the new space economy. As progress is made and momentum builds for the new space economy, opposition from entrenched business and political sectors will likely come in the form of new restrictive trade policies and regulations or renewed rigorous enforcement of old commerce accords, agreements, and treaties. These policy sanctions may be used as a cudgel to restrict competition instead of as an enabler to promote trade. One measure of their effectiveness is how space companies and space-faring nations will (or won’t) engage in an ongoing review and amendment of original trade pacts. It is hoped a space congress of representatives will work to renew and revitalize these agreements in keeping with the inevitable changes of industrial space.
