The present manuscript deals with the formulation of a polyurethane paint with better properties of resistance to corrosion, by using a linear polymer (expanded polystyrene) as a potential inhibitor used in addition to the components traditionally used in these formulations. The manufacturing methodology deals with a sequential mixing process, finalized with an experimental part of chemical saturation between normal polyurethane paint (PUN) and expanded polystyrene (PER). The Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy Analysis (EIS) indicated the resistance of the polyurethane paint film to the phenomenon of corrosion, applied on carbon steel substrate, showing different characteristics, compared to commercial paints. Finally, the benefits and applications of painting on boats and naval artifacts are exposed.
