In this paper, field-oriented control (FOC), direct torque control (DTC) and space vector modulation-DTC (SVM-DTC) of multi-level inverter (MLI) fed permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) for an electrical vehicle are presented. The FOC, DTC and SVM-DTC are the most frequently used vector control techniques which improve the dynamic response of the PMSM. The FOC technique uses the transformation theory and linear controller to control the fundamental component, and DTC generates the voltage vector with the help of hysteresis band comparator. The vector control of PMSM is simulated with the help of MATLAB/Simulink under different operating conditions, and results are compared.
