The paper presents the issue of cargo road transport causing exceeding the permissible parameters of vehicles. The analysed problem raises the topic of selecting vehicles for oversize cargo transport. This is an important issue from the entrepreneur's point of view because oversize cargo, due to its specificity, generates the constant need to develop new technological solutions that allow us to meet the increasingly demanding orders. In the first part of the paper, a literature review was carried out, focusing on three areas. Next, a multi-criteria analysis of selected transport means used in oversize cargo transport was carried out. The assessment of low-loader semi-trailers was performed using the Electre I method. Additionally, a multi-criteria comparison of tractor units most often used by carriers operating in Europe was conducted using the AHP method. The set of vehicle comparison criteria was established through an interview with a significant company from the European market, which specialises in oversize cargo transport. The conducted research made it possible to compare the latest technologies for oversize cargo transport. The most favorable solution among tractor units is the variant with the highest maximum gross vehicle weight of a semi-trailer truck. The maximum technical load capacity parameter has the most significant impact on oversize semi-trailers selection. Therefore, the vehicle with the highest technical load capacity index has the highest rating.
