The concept of transport infrastructure capacity is complex. The infrastructure of transport is ubiquitous and essential for the modern society and its economic and social well-being, as it ensures freight mobility, access to delivery services, and the transfer of products, and facilitates economic activities and social interactions. The infrastructure of transport includes harbours, road and rail networks, storage facilities, and facilities related to the networks. The transport system belongs to a set of distributed infrastructure physical components which are interconnected and placed throughout the region. This system exists in a connected network that spans that region, allowing vehicles and goods to move throughout the region.
