Abstract In recent years, the amount and level of requirements for component development in automotive industry has severely increased. This also applies to electric power steering. On the one hand, steering dynamics and driving feeling are to be improved continuously. On the other hand, the components are getting more and more complex, especially because of enclosed actuators and electronic control units (ECUs). Advanced driver assistant functions like lane keeping, stability programs and parking assistants have to be implemented. Furthermore, the communication and interaction of the different control units in a vehicle get more and more complex. Besides all this, the number of variants is increasing, while the development cycles are getting shorter. In order to assure the fulfillment of the requirements, also the effort of component testing has to be significantly increased.
