Before starting into this most fascinating field, the reader should remember a fact that puts everything in perspective: No human has ever been beyond Earth orbit for longer than 10 days, and never further than the Moon! To make things worse, the last time a human has left Earth orbit was in 1972. This means, nobody has left Earth’s magnetic field during the lifetime of anyone 48 years and older now (in 2020). Mars and near-Earth asteroids have been identified as possible next goals for exploration. This chapter will discuss potential travel destinations and aspects of planning, activities, flight time, survival and resources.
