This chapter analyzes the current Latin American global engagement in the space sector, by reporting on the major initiatives and cooperation that European countries and the European Space Agency (ESA) maintain in the region. Highlighted are the cooperation agreements between ESA and Argentina, ESA and Brazil, ESA supporting Chile’s capabilities in the space sector, and ESA and Peru cooperation on the development of EO capacities. In addition, the quest to create a regional South American Space Agency to support a space regional program continues to be under discussion, with the commitment of several countries. Lastly, Latin American membership expansion in UNCOPUOS and the creation of the regional group GRULAC, as well as the UNISPACE Conferences resulting in the creation of Regional Centres and the support of UN-SPIDER mechanism in Latin America, are described.
