Abstract This chapter deals with various radar waveforms derived from those frequencies that are used in target detection and localization. Waveform design is a very important part of automotive radar development process. The waveform applied defines not only hardware complexity but also the radar performance for both short and long range detection. This means that range and velocity measurement characteristics of the radar can be determined. Among the popular waveforms are pulse Doppler, continuous waveform and various types of modulated waveforms. We will have a look at all these and describe their properties and limitations.
