The paper addresses the main long-standing approaches to the development of marine gas turbine engines and propulsion plants as well as prospective lines in their development. The paper presents the results of UEC-Saturn work in the field of designing and engineering facilities development for marine gas turbine manufacturing in Russia. The key issues of converting aircraft gas turbine engines for application as a part of marine propulsion plants have been addressed.
