Linearization of a nonlinear system is an intuitive way to simplify the control system design and analysis. However, most existing linearizations (Slotine and Li 1991; Cheng and Li 2009; Chen and Narendra 2004; Wen and Hill 1990; Xi and Wang 1996; Guardabassi and Savaresi 1997; Deng et al. 2008; Dumont and Fu 1993) are conducted over a small operating range of system and the original nonlinear system is only approximated by the linearized system (Wen and Hill 1990). Furthermore, some of them need an exactly known mathematical model of the controlled plant or have too many parameters.
