Research has been carried out in the development of friction activation systems for locomotives (hereinafter - SAT locomotives). The results of the development of a friction activator and a device for applying it to the rolling surface of a locomotive wheel are presented. The frictional properties of special materials capable of activating friction processes have been investigated, the optimal compositions of solid friction activators have been determined. The test results of the rear pad material show that the values of the coefficient of friction make it possible to provide conditions for the stable implementation of the coefficient of adhesion in the contact zone of the wheel with the rail.
