Aiming at the problem that the refueling boom is prone to elastic deformation under the exogenous disturbances, a novel attitude control scheme of refueling boom based on the adaptive backstepping fast terminal sliding mode method is proposed. The control strategy combined backstepping with terminal sliding mode method could guarantee the refueling boom system’s stability and attain the elastic suppression under exogenous disturbances. For purpose of designing the attitude controller with good performance, an accurate elastodynamic model is established via energy method (Lagrange equation and the virtual work principle). Based on the dynamic model of the boom, the attitude controller of the refueling boom is designed. Meanwhile, a nonlinear sliding mode disturbance observer is proposed for the external disturbance. The effectiveness of the proposed attitude controller is validated by the simulation analysis.
