Abstract A stochastic point rainfall model which can represent the inter-relation between rain-cell intensity and duration is used to investigate the possibility of temporal downscale for hourly rainfall time series. The long-term simulation result appears to regenerate the observed data well in terms of statistics, but, there are still problems such as the underestimation of maximum rainfall depths and overestimation of no-rain probability. It is concluded that these drawbacks should be improved in order to apply the model to practical hydrologic designs for the adaptation strategies to climate change scenarios.
