Abstract In Chap. 4 we lay out the status of the airfreight industry at the regional level in Europe. In this chapter, we describe the air transport network of China (ATNC). We examine evidence on more than 285 cities in China as far as airfreight transport network (ATNC) in order to understand the spatial distribution, emerging trends, determinants and the expansion of airfreight flows in the last decades. Airfreight flows have recorded annual the rates of growth in the last 20 years of 9.4%. This has led to multidimensional challenges for infrastructure including resource limits. In this chapter, we review the literature of airfreight flows; we highlight the literature from economics, economic geography, operations research and management science. We shortlist the five factors that influence the airfreight activity mainly of 1975–2015. Finally we predict the future of airfreight transport from a sustainability perspective. We find that 1980–2013 trade is a key influence on airfreight flows but so is distance. The Eastern part of China has a high density of manufacturing establishments partly explaining the dynamism of airfreight flows.
