Event-triggered control (ETC) means to execute the control task after the event occurs, rather than after a certain fixed period of time, where the event is driven by well-designed event-triggering conditions (Peng and Li 2018; Ding et al. 2017). Since the control is only executed when needed, the utilization of resources is greatly reduced, while the control performance is guaranteed (Kishida 2018; Liu and Yang 2018; Lin et al. 2019). Therefore, ETC is an effective alternative way to solve the limited network resources in networked control systems (NCSs). Recently, there have been a lot of works (Shen et al. 2017; Bu et al. 2013; Pan et al. 2009; Bu et al. 2017; Meng and Moore 2017) reporting the applications of ILC in NCSs. For example, several stochastic ILC laws (Shen et al. 2017; Bu et al. 2013) have been presented to address the problem of data dropout. The robust ILC methods (Pan et al. 2009; Bu et al. 2017; Meng and Moore 2017) have been investigated to address time-varying transmission delays, data packet dropouts, and external disturbances. Besides the problems of data dropouts, transmission delay, and data noise, the limited network channel is also a critical issue to be solved in the network control systems.
