Abstract A numerical and analytical method is proposed for solving the equations that describe the flow of a viscous fluid through a porous medium. The method is based on approximating the desired solution for liquid flow velocity components with linear combinations of basis functions. Novelty of this method lies in the selection of generic independent variables and determination of basis functions that satisfy identically the initial equations.
