The influence of wing damage on the lateral flying qualities of fly-by-wire aircraft is discussed in this paper. By analyzing the changes of mass and aerodynamic characteristics caused by the wing damage, a six degree of freedom nonlinear motion model of the aircraft with wing damage is established. The ground simulation experiment platform for flying qualities assessment is built. The demonstration task which can reflect the influence of wing damage on the lateral flying qualities is selected. The mission-oriented flying qualities assessment method for aircraft with wing damage is formed. The assessment experiments of aircraft with different wing damage degree are conducted by using the assessment method proposed. According to the statistical analyses of the experimental results, the borderline of feature parameters which can represent the influence of the wing damage failure on the lateral flying qualities are obtained. The results can give theoretical reference to the identification of aircraft’s dangerous states and the combat effectiveness assessment of the aircraft with wing damage.
