By sorting out relevant cases and research findings of multimodal transportation hubs, the smart transportation is divided into three stages: foundational intelligence, enhanced intelligence, and future-oriented development. Presently, there are five main challenges: inadequate hardware infrastructure, weak data foundation, superficial use of data, insufficient sharing capabilities, and incomplete coverage of smart applications. An analysis of spatial hierarchy, transportation type, and user demands has led to the creation of a “1+1+6+N” framework, in which six key transportation infrastructure systems are identified as the groundwork for implementation. The study concludes with an in-depth discussion of road collection and distribution, taxi and ride-hailing, public transportation, static traffic, slow traffic, and freight logistics.
