Investment in the cosmos economy is already experiencing growth in a wide variety of areas including energy production, communications, data analytics, space-based manufacturing, mining, finance, construction, and tourism. Private companies, not just nation states, are playing an increasing role in building the new space-based economy. Market timers who study the potential returns from investing in space recognize the best time to invest is now, before the rest of the mob jumps in. Kim and Mauborgne in their book, Blue Ocean Strategy, (2005) noted there are successful firms in business today that didn’t even exist just 20 or 30 years earlier. Think of Starbucks, Tesla, SpaceX, Amazon and products like Apple’s smart phone, Microsoft PCs, cloud services, and Google’s search capabilities. These firms saw a new market where none previously existed and created a blue ocean for themselves. Blue oceans all, they were market timers who glimpsed the future and acted ahead of the crowd. Such is the case for business investment in space.
