The most frequently used ball bearing analysis and design computer programs are based on a quasi-static analysis of the ball dynamics which is fast and convenient, but involves assumptions that can be poor. The alternatives use a time-marching dynamic analysis that provides a better representation of the physics, but is too slow for use as a routine design tool. This article uses ideas that came from the experimental work to overcome a major assumption in the quasi-static analysis while allowing analysis of combined load bearings in real time on a standard PC.
