TO supplement previous information from the manufacturer's or refiner's point of view, research and operating data from the fleet operator's standpoint are presented. The need for crankcase temperature control is quite evident during cold- and hot-weather operation. Operating conditions such as roads, grades, and atmospheric temperatures are used in connection with crankcase-oil temperatures to give data demonstrating the need of oil temperature control.Plans are described whereby crankcase-oil temperature may be controlled to aid in easy starting at atmospheric temperatures below 70 deg. fahr. Definite proportions and capacities of temperature control units are suggested. Some are adaptable for the combined purpose of quickly raising the temperature of crankcase oil to normal operating temperature and controlling the oil temperature against excessively high operating temperatures.
