Reliability is invariably treated as a statistical probability and only to a limited degree is it considered an analytical science. Considered as a scientific discipline, however, reliability can make important contributions to every phase of product development, from design conception to establishment of requirements for quality assurance, tool design, process engineering, and maintainability. Reliability analysis data are an important, potential management tool for accurate definition and resolution of program requirements.
