The first Indian Remote Sensing Satellite IRS 1A was launched on March 17, 1988. The energy storage for this spacecraft was by two 40Ah nickel-cadmium batteries operating between 7% to 8% DOD. The performance of these batteries show marginal degradation over the 3 year mission life.
