A reliability program was funded for the development and production of the USAF T-38 airplane on the basis that it would result in a dollar savings to the customer. This program emphasized the systematic identification and correction of modes of failure disclosed by design analysis and the testing of accepted components, subsystems and systems. An analysis is presented which supports the conclusion that the reliability program objective, a cost benefit to the customer, was accomplished; timeliness of reliability attainment is shown to be the key factor of economic importance.
