One aspect of supersonic transport propulsion system behavior which has been particularly difficult to predict is transient interaction between engine and inlet. Engine stalls, inlet unstarts, distortion, and turbulence are prime examples. Mathematical simulation has proved to be the best analytical method for investigating dynamic problems of this type on large systems. This paper describes a general-purpose digital computer program called Dynasar, developed for the purpose of performing simulations of large dynamic systems. Use of the Dynasar technique is illustrated by an example involving the effect of engine inflow turbulence on supersonic propulsion system transient performance.
