This experiment is an investigation to fuel plastic pyrolsis oil and biobutanol manufactured from vegetable waste into a compression ignition engine to replace diesel. This study includes two stages: Test for solubility and properties of various proportions of plastic pyrolsis oil and biobutanol to obtain an optimal fuel blend that possesses closer properties compared to that of diesel; Followed by the testing of this optimal blend in a compression ignition engine for performance operated under modified compression ratio, fuel injection timing, and nozzle opening pressure. The optimal settings of the operating parameters were obtained by using L9 Orthogonal array and Taghuchi method. The optimal setting obtained was found to be 19: 1 of compression ratio, 210 bar of nozzle opening pressure and 29° before top dead center of fuel injection timing. Results of the solubility and properties showed that the properties of a blend containing 18% of biobutanol and 82% of plastic pyrolsis oil are found to be closer to that of diesel. Results of the engine (four stroke water-cooled single cylinder) test operated under the optimal operating parameters depicted that the brake thermal efficiency, peak in-cylinder pressure, peak heat release rate, ignition delay, exhaust gas temperature, emissions of oxides of nitrogen, smoke, hydrocarbons, and carbon monoxide produced by the optimal blend is found to be closer to that of diesel at rated power and near to rated power. This experimental study replaced diesel 100% for fueling the compression ignition engine by waste plastic oil and biofuels biobutanol, hence reducing the impact on the environment.
