The paper describes the use of the Navier-Stokes solver due to Dawes to develop the capability to perform computational experiments on the turbomachinery of turbochargers.Parametric studies to authenticate the mathematical integrity of the algorithms are described as is the evolution of the pre- and post-processor software.A Polytec L2F laser anemometer has been used to measure the velocity fields in both compressor and turbine. Comparisons with the computed results for both cases are presented. The calculated flow field for a radial inflow turbine, operating off design, is presented and discussed.
